Course Description

The RIIRIS402A Carry out the Risk Management Processes course covers the skills and knowledge required to carry out Risk Management Processes in the coal and metalliferous mining industries.

RIIRIS402A includes:

  • Determining the risk management process
  • Indentifying hazards
  • Assessing risk
  • Identifying unacceptable risk and potential actions
  • Deciding on, implementing or facilitating of actions
  • Reviewing the implementation of action
  • Auditing the risk management process; and
  • Completing records and reports.

This unit of competence supersedes the following:

MNCG1002B – Implement and apply Risk Management Processes; commonly referred to as G2.

Candidates must be able to supply evidence of completion of the national competency unit RIIRIS301A (or MNCG1001A) from the Mining Supervisor (S1,S2,S3 course) prior to enrolment (Statement of Attainment) issued less than 5 years ago.

This nationally recognised training program provides participants with the unit of competency required to achieve a Statement of Attainment which forms part of RII40209 Certificate IV in Surface Coal Mining (Open Cut Examiner) or RII40409 Certificate IV in Underground Coal Operations

Target Audience

These units of competence are appropriate for those working as supervisors or those identified as supervisors at worksites within:

  • Coal mining
  • Drilling
  • Extractive industries
  • Metalliferous mining.

In some cases, this unit is required for supervisors to be authorised by the site senior executive to give directions to other coal mine workers in accordance with the safety and health management system.

Delivery            

OHSA offers the RIIRIS402A Carry out the Risk Management Processes course face to face in a classroom workshop type environment or by distance (online) modes.

This nationally recognised training program provides participants with the unit of competency required to achieve a Statement of Attainment which forms part of RII40209 Certificate IV in Surface Coal Mining (Open Cut Examiner) or RII40409 Certificate IV in Underground Coal Operations

Public courses are conducted regularly at public locations and in-house with various mining clients.

This course of study is conducted over 1 day with a further day (approx.) of pre or post course work required. All learning and assessment material will be available to you on presenting to undertake the course. There is pre or post course work required to receive the evidence including site based activities and a submission of a port-folio of evidence (JSA’s, inspection/audit report etc) and a Manager’s Testimonial from your current or recent employer confirming that you have recently been or are still acting in the supervisory role and have satisfactorily demonstrated competence in the areas of this competency in order to receive the qualification.

Timelines

Whilst the course is delivered over 1 day you will be given 12 months to complete all of the assessment tasks at which time your enrolment expires. In circumstances where your enrolment has expired, OHSA may choose to charge an additional fee to extend the enrolment for a further twelve months or may choose to refuse your re-enrolment application. Given the latter, you will be issued with a Statement of Attainment for those units of competence that you have successfully completed.

Assessments & Awards

Participants who demonstrate competency by passing both the theory and practical assessments will receive a Statement of Attainment in partial completion of RII40109 Certificate IV in Surface Extraction Operations

Entry Requirements

Extensive vocational experience in the resources and infrastructure industry would be extremely helpful.

To successfully complete these units of competence, it is necessary that you:

  • Have sound English literacy skills to read and comprehend information from a variety of sources and compile documents
  • Are able to apply technical literacy and communicate sufficiently to interpret and apply common industry terminology, and interpret work procedures and processes
  • Have a range of communication strategies to communicate effectively with people at all levels of an organisation
  • Be able to question and listen actively, e.g. when obtaining information of technical working practices
  • Are able to write effectively to allow report writing
  • Have organisational and time management skills to sequence tasks and meet timelines.

Ideally, you will have access to a workplace or have experience of a workplace in the resources and infrastructure industry.

Conditions of registration & payment for this course

Conditions

OHSA Occupational Health Services Australia has a fair and equitable Refund Policy guaranteeing the refund of fees to course participants under reasonable circumstances. The management guarantees OHSA’s sound financial position and safeguards clients’ fees until used for learning and assessment.

An organisation or individual may substitute another participant prior to course commencement date at no cost should the nominated person be unable to attend as long as notification is provided in writing prior to commencement of the course. Registration may be transferred to another course or cancelled at no cost up to fifteen working days prior to a course providing notification is in writing.

Transfers to another course or cancellations made between ten and fifteen working days (3 weeks) prior to the commencement of the course must be in writing and will attract a 20% administration fee.

Transfers to another course or cancellations made between five and ten working days (2 weeks) prior to the commencement of the course must be in writing and will attract a 35% administration fee. For cancellations or transfers made inside five working days prior to the commencement of the course, no refund will be issued, however a substitute may attend the course as per Item 1 above. No refunds will be made after the commencement of the course unless the participant provides a medical certificate or can demonstrate extreme personal hardship. In this case, the participant may transfer to a subsequent course at the discretion of management. OHSA reserves the right to cancel or postpone a course to an alternative date. All registered participants affected by such changes will be offered the opportunity to transfer to the next available course program or receive a full refund. Note: Bookings on courses are not guaranteed until payment is received.

Payment

Full payment is required before commencement of training, unless prior arrangements have been made with OHSA Occupational Health Services Australia management or accounts department.

Full payment for courses must be made when submitting your registration request, invoices will be issued to persons/organisations who are paying on behalf of students and must be paid before a student is officially registered.

Proof of Identity Requirement

Participants of accredited training modules must provide proof of identity to the responsible person at OHSA Occupational Health Services Australia, who will sight and verify the evidence on the first day of training, record the type of evidence provided on the attendance sheet and sign the declaration.
