Course Description

This course has been designed to maintain the skill and knowledge of persons previously trained in Safe Work in Confined Spaces in the requirements of the Workplace Health and Safety Legislation and the Australian Standard 2865 Safe Working in a Confined Space. Legislation requires that all persons with work activities related to confined space/s must undertake appropriate training and be assessed as competent, to perform those activities in accordance with AS28652009.

We recommend that refresher training occur every 2 years

Target Audience

The course is relevant to supervisors and others responsible for confined space work as well as those who work in confined spaces or assist those who work in confined spaces who have previously attended a course in Safe Working in Confined Spaces and wish to maintain their skills and knowledge.

Course Content

Candidates will be trained in the following:

  • Work safely confined space
  • Select and use respiratory protection devices (RPD) for work in confined spaces
  • Apply basic fire prevention techniques in confined spaces

Course Outcomes

Upon completion, participants will be able to competently:

  • Identify potential confined space environments and determine risk;
  • Control entry to confined spaces;
  • Use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), fall prevention and rescue equipment;
  • Activate rescue procedures;
  • Undertake clean up procedures
  • Select respiratory protection devices
  • Undertake clean up procedures
  • Classify combustion
  • Identify the hazards of fire in a confined space
  • Control combustion

Course Requirements

Participants must provide photographic identification and wear closed shoes and long sleeved work trousers and shirts.

Assessments & Awards

Participants who demonstrate competency by passing both the theory assessments will receive a Statement of Attendance ‘Safe Work in Confined Spaces Refresher’

Entry Requirements

Participants should have previously attended a recognised course in Safe Working in Confined Spaces. Participants should have sufficient literacy and numeracy to read and comprehend instructions for safety at the workplace

Participants will need sufficient physical ability to attend a one-day classroom and practical scenario based course, which may involve crawling and climbing up, on, under and through structures, lifting and carrying breathing apparatus/ cylinders, donning harnesses, dragging, lifting or carrying people in confined and restricted environments in low light or smoke filled areas.

Conditions of registration & payment for this course

Conditions

OHSA Occupational Health Services Australia has a fair and equitable Refund Policy guaranteeing the refund of fees to course participants under reasonable circumstances. The management guarantees OHSA’s sound financial position and safeguards clients’ fees until used for learning and assessment.

An organisation or individual may substitute another participant prior to course commencement date at no cost should the nominated person be unable to attend as long as notification is provided in writing prior to commencement of the course. Registration may be transferred to another course or cancelled at no cost up to fifteen working days prior to a course providing notification is in writing.

Transfers to another course or cancellations made between ten and fifteen working days (3 weeks) prior to the commencement of the course must be in writing and will attract a 20% administration fee.

Transfers to another course or cancellations made between five and ten working days (2 weeks) prior to the commencement of the course must be in writing and will attract a 35% administration fee. For cancellations or transfers made inside five working days prior to the commencement of the course, no refund will be issued, however a substitute may attend the course as per Item 1 above. No refunds will be made after the commencement of the course unless the participant provides a medical certificate or can demonstrate extreme personal hardship. In this case, the participant may transfer to a subsequent course at the discretion of management. OHSA reserves the right to cancel or postpone a course to an alternative date. All registered participants affected by such changes will be offered the opportunity to transfer to the next available course program or receive a full refund. Note: Bookings on courses are not guaranteed until payment is received.

Payment

Full payment is required before commencement of training, unless prior arrangements have been made with OHSA Occupational Health Services Australia management or accounts department.

Full payment for courses must be made when submitting your registration request, invoices will be issued to persons/organisations who are paying on behalf of students and must be paid before a student is officially registered.

Pay by direct credit

When paying by direct credit you must quote the Master ID name you have provided on the credit card Authority form or the Invoice number located at the top right hand corner of your invoice. Failure to quote either of these numbers may result in your payment not being able to be recognised against your account.

Proof of Identity Requirement

Participants in accredited training modules must provide proof of identity to the responsible person at OHSA Occupational Health Services Australia, who will sight and verify the evidence on the first day of training, record the type of evidence provided on the attendance sheet and sign the declaration.
