Course description:

This course meets the requirements for 3 yearly re-certification as a ‘Workplace Rehabilitation and Return to Work Coordinator’ in Queensland as specified in the ‘Workers’ Compensation and Rehabilitation Act 2003′. Participants must successfully complete the online learning component and the written assessment items for submission into OHSA to be awarded the qualification. The online component includes a series of questions relating to key components of the learning material. The assessment items include a series pf practical applications relating to the process of effective workplace rehabilitation

Who is this course for?

If you have wages in Queensland of $6.507 million for the preceding financial year or are in a high risk industry with wages in Queensland for the preceding financial year of $1.981 million, you must :

have a workplace rehabilitation policy and procedures accredited by Q-COMP which outlines:
your commitment to assist injured workers to access necessary treatment and rehabilitation
specific steps you will take to achieve safe, timely and durable return to work
appoint a rehabilitation and return to work coordinator (RRTWC) registered with Q-COMP who will:
initiate early communication with an injured worker
develop the suitable duties program with the worker and their employer, in line with the current medical certificate.

What will you learn?

Upon completion, participants will be able to competently:

  • Apply a working knowledge of the ‘Workers’ Compensation and Rehabilitation Act and Regulation 2003′ (including any amendments);
  • Effectively communicate/negotiate with injured workers, management, treating medical practitioners and other key persons involved in the workplace rehabilitation process;
  • Establish and maintain systems for managing workplace rehabilitation at an accredited workplace;
  • Identify and know how to implement steps taken, following the injury of a worker, with regards to requirements of the insurer’s, the legislation and regulation’s standard for rehabilitation;
  • Be able to assist injured workers with gaining suitable employment;
  • Monitor the effectiveness of individual plans, as well as the overall effectiveness of workplace rehabilitation within the organisation.

 

Course duration

Depending on individual background , experience and access to resources the total hours needed to achieve the WPR200 qualification may vary, but all learners need to meet the benchmarks detailed in the WPR200 training package. All learners activities and assessment tasks have been mapped against the units of competence and meet the performance criteria, critical aspects of evidence and context of assessment to achieve competency. Participants must complete this course within 6 months of enrolment.

Course content

  • Assist the employer to discharge legislative obligations as outlined in the ‘Workers’ Compensation and Rehabilitation Act 2003′, including any amendments and apply a working knowledge of this legislation;
  • Establish and/or maintain a system for managing the rehabilitation of injured workers at the workplace;
  • Plan and coordinate individual rehabilitation plans for injured workers in accordance with ‘Workplace Rehabilitation best practices’;

Assessment

You will work through interactive workbooks online and submit written assignments for each unit of study either by email, fax or post.

Award

Participants who demonstrate competency by passing both the theory and practical assessments during the course will receive a Statement of Attainment from OHSA. Confirmation of attendance and successful completion is then provided for forwarding onto Q-COMP for recording.

Entry requirements

  • Participants are required to have a current qualification as a ‘Workplace Rehabilitation & Return to Work Coordinator’ issued by Q-COMP;
  • Sound language and literacy skills and basic word processing
  • Access to a computer, internet and printer is required
  • Assignments are generally based around workplace activities
  • Participants should have access to a workplace that can be used for case studies and/or practical exercises
  • Minimum completion of year 10 is recommended
  • General work experience in the workplace would be significantly beneficial
