Course description ...

Working in confined spaces is a high-risk activity and has been responsible for many work-related deaths. Legislation requires that all persons with work activities related to confined space/s must undertake appropriate training and be assessed as competent, to perform those activities in accordance with AS2865 Safe Working in a Confined Space. 


The Course is nominally a 5 day course (although this includes the 2 day Senior First Aid Qualification). Should the participant hold the qualification the full course is then a 3 day course.

The unit SCS00102A Work Safely in Confined Spaces is a full 2 day course. Students would receive a Statement of Attainment in partial completion in Course in Safe Work in Confined Spaces 39080 QLD.

Upon completion, participants will be able to competently:

    • Identify potential confined space environments and determine risk.
    • Control entry to confined spaces.
    • Use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), Fall Prevention and Rescue Equipment.
    • Activate rescue procedures.
    • Undertake clean up procedures.
  • Unit SCS00202A  Select and Use Respiratory Protection Devices (RPD) for Work in Confined Spaces
    • Select respiratory protection devices.
    • Operate with respiratory protection devices.
    • Undertake clean up procedures
  • Unit SCS00302A  Apply Basic Fire Prevention Techniques in Confined Spaces
    • Classify combustion
    • Identify the hazards of fire in a confined space.
    • Control combustion.

Assessments & Award ...


Participants who demonstrate competency by passing both the theory and practical assessments will receive a Statement of Attainment for the units completed or a Statement of Attainment 'Course in Safe Work in Confined Spaces - 39080QLD' will be issued if all units are completed and the participant holds a current Senior First Aid qualification, that is valid for at least 12 months.

 

Course Requirements ...


Participants must provide photographic identification and wear closed shoes and long sleeved work trousers and shirts. 

Entry Requirements ...


Participants should have sufficient literacy and numeracy to read and comprehend instructions for safety at the workplace.

Participants will need sufficient physical ability to attend a three-day classroom and practical scenario based  course, which may involve crawling and climbing up, on, under and through structures, lifting and carrying breathing apparatus/ cylinders, donning harnesses, dragging, lifting or carrying people in confined and restricted environments in low light or smoke filled areas.
