This course is designed for persons seeking accreditation as a Workplace Health and Safety Officer (WHSO) who work at a Industrial workplace in accordance with the provisions of the Workplace Health and Safety Act 1995.


The course is also suitable for Supervisors and Managers who require understanding of the WHS Legislation and practical OH&S measures for managing safety in an Industrial workplace may also wish to attend.


To become an accredited WHSO, participants are required to achieve competency in both the Core Modules and an Elective Module (Services, Industrial or Construction).

  • Identify construction hazards;
  • Prioritise constructionl hazards;
  • Complete an inspection/assessment report in accordance with best practice
  • Complete an inspection report in accordance with best practice;
  • Make recommendations from findings of inspection report;
  • Consult with relevant parties in the implementation of control measures;
  • Assist relevant parties in the implementation of control measures;
  • Monitor and review the effectiveness of control measures.

Course Outcomes ...


Upon completion, participants will be able to perform the following functions:

  • Satisfy the requirements to qualify as a Workplace Health and Safety Officer;
  • Identify and prioritise construction hazards;
  • Complete an inspection/assessment report in accordance with best practice;
  • Consult with relevant parties regarding compliance issues relating to statutory requirements;
  • Assist relevant parties in the implementation of control measures;
  • Monitor and review the effectiveness of control measures.

Assessments & Award ...


Participants who demonstrate competency by passing both the theory and practical assessments will receive a Statement of Attainment ‘Course in Functioning as a Workplace Health and Safety Officer – Units – WHSO/04 issued by OHSA.


Participants will also receive an Assessment Report /Certificate of Authority Application which enables the participant to make application to the Department of Industrial Relations to become a certified Workplace Health and Safety Officer.

 

Course Requirements ...


Time restrictions apply upon completion of Functioning as a Workplace Health and Safety Officer. Individuals must complete an industry specific Elective within six (6) months in order to gain their Workplace Health and Safety Officer certification.
