Our nationally recognised High Voltage Switching (HVSO) course covers the following topics:
- Legislation and Standards
- Risk management and control
- Reading and understanding HV Single Line Diagrams
- Understanding HV Protection Systems
- Approach to high voltage – safe systems of work, permit types and permit procedures
- Writing and checking switching programs
- Performing switching to a switching network.
Our course is derived from the latest training packages; UEP12 Electricity Supply Industry – Generation Sector Training Package and UET12 Transmission, Distribution and Rail Sector Training Package.
Students are able to perform practical HV switching activities in our purpose-built HV switching facility. The practical phase involves using a range of functioning and interconnected high voltage switchgear that provide the student a real switching experience. Additionally, the interconnected low voltage system provides LV switching and bus-ties to provide more complex switching scenarios.
This course is designed for electrical workers and engineers working with high voltage switchgear in industrial facilities and networks.
We recommend that High Voltage Switching Operators maintain currency in units of switching by completing a refresher course every 2 years in-line with industry guidelines
Students are involved in a range of practical activities throughout the training, including writing and checking switching programs, and performing switching activities in our purpose-built high voltage network.
Upon successful completion of the course a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for the following Units of Competency will be issued:
UEPOPS349B | Operate Local HV Switchgear
UEPOPS357B | Operate HV Secondary Switchgear
UEPOPS428B | Develop High Voltage Switching Programs
UEPOPS456A | Perform Switching to a Switching Program
UEPOPS525A | Coordinate and direct switching program
A good knowledge and awareness of electrical networks is required.
Assessments and Awards
Students who are deemed competent will receive a Statement of Attainment recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework. This certification is nationally recognised. The Statement is issued by OHSA (RTO 31092).
