Manual Handling
The OHSA Manual Handling Health & Injury Prevention Program

The OHSA Manual Handling Program (also known as our Health & Injury Prevention Program) is a unique and innovative employee ergonomics program. The aim is to involve people through visual, auditory and kinesthetic learning (via a series of body in space activities with plenty of props presented at key learning points throughout the presentation) to understand important ergonomic and manual handling principles and the biomechanics of the human body with respect to posture, repetion, force and rest.

Participants are challenged to relate these principles to case studies from their own work and identify key manual handling risk factors, more appropriate work methods and appropriate fatigue reduction strategies.

The course encourages participation from all in the class. Experiencing the reduction in ability from poor posture provides the basis of understanding your workplace and the interaction of your body within it. Being aware of the physical demand provides the basis of how to manage it.

Students will also understand that managing and preventing manual handling injuries is a two way process that requires them to take equal responsibility for their personal factors, which significantly contributes to workplace injuries.
Participants will take away an 80 page A5 full color booklet outlining all the information covered in the session including the manual handling and ergonomic principles learned, and the processes that can be used to identify manual handling solutions. It is designed to be a resource for ongoing reference at work and at home.
