Course Description

The RIIRIS402D Carry out the Risk Management Processes refresher course covers the skills and knowledge required to Carry out the Risk Management Processes in the Coal and Metalliferous mining industries. This competency must be refreshed every 5 years according to the Coal & Metalliferous Safety & Health Mining Regulations QLD 2002.

This unit of competence supersedes the MNCG1002B – Implement and apply Risk Management Processes; commonly referred to as G2.

This course of study is delivered via distance learning / on-line. All learning and assessment material will be available to you upon receipt of your enrolment. Assessment is conducted by submitting a port-folio of site evidence demonstrating competency in the relevant field of study including completing a written theory assessment, submitting two facilitated risk assessments (JSEA’s/WRAC/Bow-Tie etc), submitting two completed safety inspections/audits,  submitting a Manager’s Testimonial, 100 points of ID and a Statutory Declaration.

Target Audience

These units of competence are appropriate for those working as managers or supervisors at worksites within:

  • Coal mining
  • Drilling
  • Extractive industries
  • Metalliferous mining.

In some cases, this unit is required for managers and supervisors to be authorised by the site senior executive to give directions to other coal mine workers in accordance with the safety and health management system. This competency is a statutory requirement for certain categories of people as identified by the Coal and Metalliferous Safety & Health Advisory Committees QLD.

Course Content

RIIRIS402D includes:

  • Determining the risk management process
  • Indentifying hazards
  • Assessing risk
  • Identifying unacceptable risk and potential actions
  • Deciding on, implementing or facilitating of actions
  • Reviewing the implementation of action
  • Auditing the risk management process; and
  • Completing records and reports.

Course Requirements

Candidates must be able to supply evidence of the national competency unit MNCG1002A or RIIRIS402A, or equivalent, issued within the past 5 years and have recent experience (within past 24 months) working as a supervisor or manager within the resources industry.

To successfully complete these units of competence, it is necessary that you:

  • Hold a current superseded competency issued in the past 5 years
  • Have recent resources experience
  • Have access to a resources site
  • Have copies of, or access to, a portfolio of evidence required to be submitted for this course
  • Access to the internet
  • Have sound English literacy skills to read and comprehend information from a variety of sources and compile documents

Whilst the course is self paced you will be given 3 months to complete all of the assessment tasks at which time your enrolment expires. You may then wish to request in writing an extension of a further period at the discretion of the OHSA assessor.  There is no refund once you have enrolled into the course and received the course material from OHSA.
