Course Description
This unit of competency covers the functions required to safely operate and maintain a Skid Steer Loader to meet WHSQ and industry standards for certification. This unit involves planning the work for the prevailing working conditions, using the controls and operating systems to manage the operation of the equipment, identifying load characteristics, safely moving loads, monitoring the controls and stopping and shutting down and securing the equipment after the completion of operations.
Target Audience 
Workers entering or working in industry where earth moving and load shifting operations are required.This licence provides good employment entry options in civil and construction industries.
Course Content 
Candidates will be trained in the following:
- Hazard identification and response methods
- Understanding and following instructions
- Components, controls and features of front end loader skid steer type and their functions.
- Operating principles and operating methods.
- Legislative requirements with regard to licensing.
- Loadshifting processes and procedures.
- Principles of the safe removal of obstacles and hazards from the workplace.
- Workplace communication procedures.
- Obtain licenses and permits e.g. if equipment is to be driven on a public road.
- Demonstrate safe and environmentally responsible workplace practices.
- Knowledge to apply calculations to assess load mass and reductions for slinging techniques.
- Electrical hazards
- Load masses
Course Outcomes 
On successful completion of this course the trainee will be able to:
- Operate a Skid Steer Loader in an industrial environment, and
- Complete the above operational tasks.
Course Requirements
OHSA will provide trainees with a safety helmet, gloves, high visibility vest, safety glasses, a clipboard and training materials.
Trainees will provide safety boots & work clothes. OHSA will provide the training site and equipment as required.

Assessments & Awards 
After training and a successful assessment trainees will be given a Statement of Attainment by OHSA and will receive a National operators Licence from WHSQ.
Entry Requirements 
Adequate numeracy, literacy and English verbal skills to do simple calculations, write legibly & be understood.
Have sufficient physical strength and dexterity to do safety checks, basic maintenance and operate the Skid Steer Loader as required.

Conditions
OHSA Occupational Health Services Australia has a fair and equitable Refund Policy guaranteeing the refund of fees to course participants under reasonable circumstances. The management guarantees OHSA’s sound financial position and safeguards clients’ fees until used for learning and assessment.
An organisation or individual may substitute another participant prior to course commencement date at no cost should the nominated person be unable to attend as long as notification is provided in writing prior to commencement of the course. Registration may be transferred to another course or cancelled at no cost up to fifteen working days prior to a course providing notification is in writing.
Transfers to another course or cancellations made between ten and fifteen working days (3 weeks) prior to the commencement of the course must be in writing and will attract a 20% administration fee.
Transfers to another course or cancellations made between five and ten working days (2 weeks) prior to the commencement of the course must be in writing and will attract a 35% administration fee. For cancellations or transfers made inside five working days prior to the commencement of the course, no refund will be issued, however a substitute may attend the course as per Item 1 above. No refunds will be made after the commencement of the course unless the participant provides a medical certificate or can demonstrate extreme personal hardship. In this case, the participant may transfer to a subsequent course at the discretion of management. OHSA reserves the right to cancel or postpone a course to an alternative date. All registered participants affected by such changes will be offered the opportunity to transfer to the next available course program or receive a full refund. Note: Bookings on courses are not guaranteed until payment is received.
Payment
Full payment is required before commencement of training, unless prior arrangements have been made with OHSA Occupational Health Services Australia management or accounts department.
Full payment for courses must be made when submitting your registration request, invoices will be issued to persons/organisations who are paying on behalf of students and must be paid before a student is officially registered.

Proof of Identity Requirement
Participants in accredited training modules must provide proof of identity to the responsible person at OHSA Occupational Health Services Australia, who will sight and verify the evidence on the first day of training, record the type of evidence provided on the attendance sheet and sign the declaration.
