Course description:

This course has been developed to meet the incident investigation unit (formerly S2 of the S1, S2, S3 course) requirements in the mining industry for a Mining Supervisor od Safety Representative. This unit is approved by the safety and Health Advisory Council and is designed for Safety representatives and for supervisors. The unit covers conducting investigations. Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to conduct accident investigation practices relevant to their organisation.

Who is this course for?

This course is designed for all persons interested in the subject of ‘Risk Management’ and for persons who have safety and health obligations specified under the Coal Mining safety & Health Act, the Workplace Health &Safety Act and the Mining & Quarrying Safety & Health Act.

What will you learn?

This course is structured to satisfy the former ‘S2′ of the ‘S1,S2.S3′ or ‘Mining Supervisors course’. The course provides the learner with the knowledge and skills required to investigate safety and health incidents in the workplace, collect and analyse information to identify reasons for and results of the safety or health incident and document courses of action to resolve and prevent similar safety or health incidents.

Course duration

Depending on individual background , experience and access to resources the total hours needed to achieve this qualification may vary, but all learners need to meet the benchmarks detailed in the RIIOHS301A training package (formerly MNCG1008A). All learners activities and assessment tasks have been mapped against the units of competence and meet the performance criteria, critical aspects of evidence and context of assessment to achieve competency.

  • The unit RIIOHS301A has equivalence to MNQGEN310A – Conduct safety and Health Investigations (extractive) and MNMG326A Conduct Safety and Health Investigations (Metalliferous)

 

Assessment, literacy and numeracy

Sound literacy and numeracy skills are required to undertake components of this course as well as to read and comprehend information from notes, standards and legislative material. Assessments consist of online quiz (multiple questions) and written questions. If you believe you may need assistance to complete these tasks, it is suggested that you speak to one of our staff who will arrange an interview for you with a member of our’ Learning Support Teaching’ staff prior to commencing your study program. The ‘Learning Support Teaching’ staff can design a literacy and numeracy support program that meets your individual needs and course demands.

Award

On successful completion learners will receive a ‘Statement’ for competencies completed.
