Course Description

This 7 Day Package has been designed to respond to industry needs to quickly mobilise people onto projects with the usual suite of required competencies in a timely and efficient manner. This 7 Day program is delivered every Monday to Sunday or Wednesday to Tuesday. This can be performed at our training facilities or it can be conducted on-site / in-house at the client’s location and the program can be modified to your own needs. The courses included in the public 7 Day program include:

1. Mining Induction – Standard 11 Surface – 2 Days (Every Monday & Tues OR Saturday & Sunday)

  • RIICOM201D: Communicate in the workplace
  • RIIGOV201D: Comply with site work processes/procedures
  • RIIWHS201D: Work safely and follows WHS policies and procedures
  • RIIRIS201D: Conduct local risk control
  • RIIERR205D: Apply initial response First Aid
  • RIIERR302D: Respond to local emergencies and incidents

2. Work Safely at Heights – 1 Day (Every Wednesday)

  • RIIWHS 204D: Work Safely at Height

3. Confined Spaces (Initial)  – 1 Day (Every Thursday)

  • RIIWHS202D: Enter and work in confined spaces
  • MSAPMPER205C: Enter confined space
  • MSAPMPER200C: Work in accordance with an issued permit

4. Senior First Aid – 1 Day with pre-reading (Every Friday) 

  • HLTAID001: Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • HLTAID002: Provide basic emergency life support
  • HLTAID003: Provide first aid

5. Light Vehicle & 4WD Training (Mining & Gas Competencies) – 2 days (Saturday and Sunday for public courses or an alternative date if required for in-house courses)

  • RIIVEH305D: Drive and maintain a four wheel drive vehicle
  • RIIVEH201D: Operate light vehicle
  • PMASUP236B: Operate vehicles in the field

Other options can be added where requested i.e.

6. Mining Induction – Standard 11 Underground (1 Day elective option) – offered every Wednesday

  • RIIERR203D: Escape from hazardous situations unaided (underground elective)

7. Confined Spaces (Permit Issuer & Gas Testing) – 1 Day – offered on Fridays

  • MSAPMPER300C: Issue work permits
  • MSAPMOHS217A: Gas test atmospheres
  • RIIRIS201D: Conduct local risk control

8. Rescue for LV Panel & CPR Refresher (1/2 Day) – Offered weekly

  • UETTDRRF06B: Perform rescue from a live LV panel 
  • HLTAID001: Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation

9. Construction White Card – online (few hours)

  • CPCCOHS1001A: Work safely in the construction industry

10. Mining Supervisor S123 (2 Days face to face or online) – offered every Wed & Thursday

  • RIIRIS301D: Apply risk management processes
  • RIIWHS301D: Conduct safety and health investigations
  • RIICOM301D: Communicate information

Target Audience

Designed for Mining Workers wishing to obtain the usual required competencies to mobilise onto mining projects.

Course Requirements

Participants must provide photographic identification (i.e. driver’s licence, passport). Closed shoes must also be worn and you should bring long sleeved clothing for the fire fighting. Participants should have sufficient literacy and numeracy to read and comprehend instructions for safety at the workplace. Participants will need sufficient physical ability to attend a classroom based course, access confined spaces, climb ladders and wear harnesses, operate 4WD, conduct vehicle pre-starts, change tyres and connect trailers, perform CPR floor demonstration exercises and lift and carry approximately 10kg fire extinguisher to extinguish a fire.

Assessments and Awards

Participants who demonstrate competency by passing both the theory and practical assessments will receive a Statement of Attainment in completion of the RISA Standard 11 Generic Induction – Surface Coal Mining.

Students will receive a Statement of Completion Certificate for the theory components of the six (6) units either at the course or usually within 1-2 business days of the course completion and a colour plastic RISA Mining Induction Partial Completion card with the student’s photo identification. Where possible, this card will be provided at the end of the 2 day course. The student will also receive a Site Verification Log Book to have completed on site. Upon the return of your completed log book (within 6 months of this Standard 11 training course), a Statement of Attainment will be produced and another RISA Mining Induction Full Completion card will be produced with both theory and practical components ticked. Students will need to attend a one day refresher course every 5 years. Students who fail to complete the Site Verification Booklet within the 6 months will be required to complete a further challenge test for an additional fee.

Students will receive the Work at Heights, Confined Spaces and First Aid and Vehicle Qualifications usually on the day of the course or will be issued and emailed the following day.
