On-Line Mining Induction Standard 11 Surface | Coal and Metalliferous Mines

Undertaking and successfully completing this online course will provide students with the following six units of competency, commonly referred to in the industry as the S11, or Standard 11:

  • RIICOM201D Communicate in the workplace
  • RIIGOV201D Comply with site work processes/procedures
  • RIIWHS201D Work safely and follows WHS policies and procedures
  • RIIRIS201D Conduct local risk control
  • RIIERR205D Apply initial response First Aid
  • RIIERR302E Respond to local emergencies and incidents

This online Standard 11 (S11) Mining Induction (correctly known as the Generic OHS Induction from Appendix 3 in the Qld Department of Natural Resources and Mines ‘Recognised Standard 11 – Training in Coal Mines ) is a required course for new starters to work on a mine in Queensland.

OHSA are licensed by the Resources Training Council (RTC) to deliver this industry course. OHSA are one of the largest and most regular providers of this course. This course exceeds the requirements of most other interstate mining induction requirements (however you should always check first with the mine about any specific requirements they may have).

This course covers both coal and metalliferous mines. The Standard 11 Mine Safety Induction (Surface) course is typically delivered face-to-face over 2 days – however, due to the current issues with COVID 19 Coronavirus, the Resources Training Council have agreed to temporarily allow this course to be delivered online with either students then attending short practical workshops (approx 2.5hrs) or opting to have a web-cam discussion / simulated demonstration with the trainer / assessor (approx. 1hr). 

There are TWO (2) pathways (options) for you to receive your Standard 11 Surface Induction.

Option 1: Do Course ONLINE and complete practical via WEB BASED simulation conferencing with trainer / assessor one on one.

Receive RTC Card and Statement of Completion (this is the temporary process, with sessions and theory delivered / completed online and the practical tasks demonstrated via webcam video conferencing).

  1. Complete the Online Standard 11 Surface Mining Induction Course with RTC Licensed Training Provider.
  2. Participate in webcam video conferencing simulated discussions (participant will need access to smart phone with video capability, lap top or computer with webcam capability).
  3. Receive RTC Plastic Card, Statement of Completion and Site Verification Workbook and attend site to work.
  4. Return Site Verification Workbook and completed tags and personal risk assessments within 6 months.
  5. Receive Statement of Attainment & Full RTC Plastic Induction Card (5 year expiry).

 

Option 2: Do Course ONLINE and PHYSICALLY come to small group practicals.

Receive RTC Card and Statement of Completion (this is the usual process, except sessions are temporarily delivered and assessed online and participant attends F2F small group 2.5hr practical workshops).

  1. Complete the Online Standard 11 Surface Mining Induction Course with RTC Licensed Training Provider.
  2. Attend the small group, practical 2.5hr workshops with your training provider and complete the practical tasks which include: using fire extinguisher to put out small fire, bandage small bleed and snake bite, perform DRSABCD & 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR, use two way radio, participate in an incident role play, complete incident report.
  3. Receive RTC Plastic Card, Statement of Completion and Site Verification Workbook.
  4. Return Site Verification Workbook and completed tags and personal risk assessments within 6 months.
  5. Receive Statement of Attainment & Full RTC Plastic Induction Card (5 year expiry).

If you wish to conduct simulated exercises by Zoom, Facetime / Webcam etc with our trainer / assessor you will need to have access to bandages, fire extinguisher (or we can provide in web-cam conference) and someone to demonstrate CPR on. You will also need to show photo ID at the commencement of your zoom / facetime / webcam session and be able to answer random questions about the online course before you are allowed to commence the practical workshop or commence the webcam / facetime session. This is to verify that you completed the course by yourself.

Those wishing to work underground will need to do the elective Standard 11 Underground course which is also currently being allowed to be completed with an online theory and practical workshop / webcam demonstration.

Students must have first completed the online surface theory assessment before attending the practical workshop or completing the zoom, webcam / facetime interview with a trainer / assessor.

You should contact our office if you wish to attend practical workshops for dates, times and locations. If you wish to conduct simulated exercises by Zoom, Facetime / Webcam etc with our trainer / assessor you will need to have access to bandages, fire extinguisher and someone to demonstrate CPR on. You will also need to show photo ID at the commencement of your facetime / webcam session and be able to ask random questions about the online course before you are allowed to commence – to verify that you completed the course by yourself.

Participants will need to have fast reliable internet and a phone, laptop or computer with video capability to participate in the webcam / facetime / zoom video conferencing simulated practical task demonstrations or scenario discussions.

Participants must provide their USI number (see www.usi.gov.au) at enrolment and bring along to the practical sessions valid photographic identification (i.e. driver’s licence, passport).

Closed shoes must also be worn and you should bring long sleeved clothing for the fire fighting.

Participants should have sufficient literacy and numeracy to read and comprehend instructions for safety at the workplace.
