This course ensures all participants have the foundational knowledge to work safely, comply with WHS laws, and use personal protective equipment (PPE) correctly, making it essential for all construction site personnel.

Before starting your CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry – White Card training, you must meet several mandatory enrolment criteria. WorkSafe QLD strictly enforces these prerequisites to ensure all participants can learn safely. Furthermore, you need to prepare the right documents and equipment for your face-to-face session. Therefore, please review the following checklist carefully to guarantee a smooth induction day.

IDENTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS (100 POINTS)

In line with Workplace Health and Safety Queensland Regulations, participants must provide 100 points of identification on the first day of training. Acceptable documents include:

• Australian Driver’s Licence, Passport, or QLD-issued 18+ Card
• Medicare Card
• Financial institution debit or credit card (must be sighted; copies of other documents will be taken)

Important: Failure to provide the required identification may result in the participant being unable to attend training. Please contact our office if you have any questions about meeting the ID requirements.

PHYSICAL & PSYCHOLOGICAL CAPABILITY

Participants must be physically and cognitively capable of safely navigating a simulated construction environment. You must be able to demonstrate the correct fitting of mandatory Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including:

• Head Protection: Securing and adjusting a hard hat correctly.
• Eye & Hearing Protection: Wearing safety glasses and properly fitting earmuffs or earplugs.
• High-Visibility Gear: Wearing a standard high-vis vest or shirt.

Participants must have the psychological capacity to maintain situational awareness. You must be able to follow strict safety instructions and clearly report potential hazards to a site supervisor under simulated conditions.

LANGUAGE, LITERACY & NUMERACY (LLN)

To enroll in this course, students will need the following literacy ability.

• Reading: The ability to read and comprehend instructions in English as well as to recognise and interpret information on safety signs.
• Speaking: The ability to speak clearly and succinctly in English.
• Writing: The ability to write short answer responses in English.

FITNESS FOR DUTY & CLASSROOM POLICY

Safety starts in the classroom. No student will be permitted to undertake the course or any session if they are impaired. This includes being under the influence of alcohol, illegal/illicit substances, or experiencing impairment from prescribed medication, or severe fatigue.

AGE REQUIREMENT

• Participants must be 18 years or older to enrol in any of our safety training programs.
• OHSA does not provide training for individuals under the age of 18.

VISA STATUS

• Students must not be on a student visa or be the partner of someone on a student visa.

Note: These requirements ensure compliance with national safety training standards and allow participants to receive their White Card upon successful completion of the course.

Most Frequently Asked Questions for the White Card

• What is a White Card? A White Card is the nationally recognised certification required to work on construction sites in Australia. It demonstrates that you have completed  CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry
• Who needs a White Card? Anyone who wants to work on a construction site, including labourers, tradespeople, apprentices, site supervisors, and managers, must hold a valid White Card.
• I have lost my white card. Can you issue a replacement? We can issue a replacement if you were trained in Queensland and can provide your Statement of Attainment. You will also need to provide 100 points of ID, complete a Stat Dec and pay a $35 replacement fee.  We are unable to replace old Blue Cards. If you have lost a Blue Card, you will need to complete a new course. • Are White Cards valid in all states and territories? Yes. Queensland White Cards are accepted throughout Australia. Additionally, the following construction induction cards are recognised in Queensland and vice versa:

• How long is the course? The Construction White Card course typically takes half a day (approximately 5 hours), including theory and practical assessments.
• Where is the training held? Training is delivered face-to-face at OHSA’s Brisbane and Gold Coast training centres.
• What are the entry requirements? Participants must be at least 18 years old and provide 100 points of identification as per WorkSafe Queensland regulations.
• What documents can I use for identification? Acceptable documents include an Australian Driver’s Licence, Passport, QLD 18+ Card, Medicare Card, or debit/credit card (must be sighted).
• What ID do I need to provide for my White Card training, and can I use digital copies? Before starting your training, you must produce three matching original Evidence of Identity (EOI) documents. Your RTO must sight these documents directly. Consequently, standard photographs of your ID are strictly prohibited. However, you can use electronic originals if they are accessed live through a secure portal. For instance, logging into myGov in real-time to show your Medicare card is perfectly acceptable. • What will I learn in this course? You will learn about workplace health and safety legislation, hazard identification, risk management, safe work practices, PPE use, and incident reporting.
