Forklift | Verification of Competency | VOC | Brisbane Training Course

TLILIC2001 – Licence to operate a forklift truck

WHS Legislation requires that employers cannot ‘assume an employee is competent’. A Verification of Competency (VOC) assessment assists the employer to determine that the skill level of an operator is appropriate for the plant and task. It is often used to satisfy project requirements and pre-employment competency checks.

OHSA can verify the competencies of your people in a range of High Risk Licence and Non-High Risk operations. Nationally Recognised Units of Competency, Codes of Practice, Standards, Original Equipment Manufacturer’s Manuals, Relevant Legislation and Company Procedures are used to determine an Operator’s Competency.

This unit of competency covers the functions required to prepare and operate a forklift safely including planning the work for the prevailing working conditions, using the controls and operating systems to manage the operation of the equipment, locating the load and identifying the load characteristics, safely moving the load, monitoring the controls and stopping, shutting down and securing the equipment after the completion of operations.

This process is available to operators who currently hold a current Forklift High Risk License and need their competency verified.

Candidates will be required to demonstrate their competency in the following areas:

  • Components, controls and features of forklifts and their functions;
  • Operating principles and operating methods;
  • Legislative requirements with regard to licensing;
  • Loadshifting processes and procedures including work platforms;
  • Principles of the safe removal of obstacles and hazards from the workplace;
  • The hazard control measures with elimination, substitution, isolation and engineering control measures being selected before safe work practices and personal protective equipment;
  • Workplace communication procedures;
  • Obtain licenses and permits e.g. if forklift is to be driven on a public road;
  • Demonstrate safe and environmentally responsible workplace practices;
  • Electrical hazards;
  • Load masses.

Trainees will provide their own safety boots and work clothes. OHSA can attend your site or your workers can attend our facility.
