HLTAID011 Provide First Aid Training Course

Undertaking and successfully completing the HLTAID011 Provide First Aid course will provide students with the following unit of competency:

HLTAID011 Provide First Aid

The HLTAID011 Provide First Aid course (formerly known as Senior First Aid) is the minimum competency required by Work Health & Safety Legislation for a workplace first aider, suitable for everyday emergency situations.

Participants who demonstrate competency by passing both the theory and practical assessments will receive a Statement of Attainment.

The unit of competency HLTAID011 incorporates content that is within the units that provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation (HLTAID009) and provide basic emergency life support (HLTAID010).

This applies to all workers who may be required to provide a first aid response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.

• Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
• Choking
• Wounds and bleeding
• Burns
• Management of medical emergencies, including chest pain, asthma, anaphylaxis, diabetes, strokes, seizures and hyperventilation
• Shock
• Heat and cold-induced illness
• Safety and risk management
• Strains, sprains, dislocations and fractures
• Head, neck and spinal injuries
• Chest and abdominal injuries
• Facial and eye injuries
• Poisons
• Bites and stings
• Legal issues
• Infection control
• Defibrillation
• Emergency kits

• To undertake this course, students need to be able to communicate in English, including the ability to read and comprehend instructions and convey incident details to emergency response services.
• Students must have sufficient physical ability to squat, kneel, bend, lift, and carry objects and perform uninterrupted CPR for 2 minutes on an adult and infant mannequin on the floor during the practical scenarios.
• Students will need to undertake and complete ‘pre-course’ learning via an online portal before attending the face-to-face component of the course and submit a copy of their ‘Completion Certificate’ received online before attending the face-to-face component.
• Students will require access to a computer, a reliable internet connection and a printer to complete the pre-course learning theory and print off the completion certificate.
