RIIRIS402E Carry out the Risk Management Processes

This ‘G2’ RIIRIS402E Carry out the Risk Management Processes course covers the skills and knowledge required to Carry out the Risk Management Processes in the Coal and Metalliferous mining industries. This competency is a statutory requirement according to mining legislation for certain occupational categories as deemed by the respective Mining Safety & Health Advisory Committees. Some mining companies have expanded the categories of people who require this competency. Some sites now require any person with a supervisory capacity to also hold this competency along with the Mining Supervisor S123.

This unit of competence supersedes the MNCG1002B – Implement and apply Risk Management Processes, commonly referred to as G2.

Some post-course work requires students to submit a portfolio of site evidence demonstrating competency in the relevant field of study, including facilitated risk assessments (WRAC/Bow-Tie, etc.), safety inspections, and an audit report. This competency is required to be refreshed at least every five years as per Reg. 84 of the Coal Mining Safety and Health Regulation 2017 (Qld). Supervisors can choose to do the 5-day supervisors package, which includes Standard 11, Mining Supervisor S123 and G2 over 5 consecutive days, Monday to Friday or Wednesday to Sunday.

To qualify as a G2 Risk Facilitator, individuals must complete a nationally recognized unit of competency called RIIRIS402E, “Carry out the risk management process”, and have relevant experience in a resource sector workplace.

RIIRIS402E includes:

• Determining the risk management process
• Identifying hazards
• Assessing risk
• Identifying unacceptable risk and potential actions
• Deciding on, implementing or facilitating of actions
• Reviewing the implementation of action
• Auditing the risk management process; and
• Completing records and reports.

Candidates are required to have completed the national competency unit MNCG1001A or RIIRIS301A/D (S123) or equivalent and have access to a resource work site to complete the post-course portfolio of evidence.

The post-course work portfolio evidence must be submitted within 6 weeks of attendance at the face-to-face course. You may then wish to request in writing a maximum extension of a further 6 weeks at the discretion of the OHSA assessor. There is no refund once you have enrolled into the course and received the course material from OHSA.

If you are no longer employed at a resource project or cannot access a recent supervisor/manager or site documentation, you may need to reconsider taking this course via online/distance learning mode.
