A Certificate IV in Workplace Health and Safety (WH&S) BSB41419 is now the minimum requirement for OHS management in most Australian workplaces. OHSA provides a nationally recognised online and face-to-face training program for students to gain this qualification. The BSB41419 qualification consists of ten (10) units of competency, which can be found by clicking on the Course Content heading below.
Depending on individual background, experience and access to resources, the total hours needed to achieve the BSB41419 Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety may vary, but all learners need to meet all the requirements as outlined in each unit of competency.
Based on taking approximately 440 hours of self-paced study and completing assessments and projects, the following is a guide to assist students in determining their completion timeframe. Studying for 17.6 hours/week = 6 months to complete the course, or 8.5 hours/week = 1 year. Students with current knowledge and who are working in the industry may complete the course in a shorter timeframe.

The Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety training course is the usual minimum requirement for those in Brisbane and Australia-wide who want to commence a career in occupational health & safety. After completing this qualification, you will be able to work as a health and safety practitioner and become responsible for the corresponding WH&S functions within a workplace. Students have 12 months to complete all 10 units. Upon completion, students will receive an emailed and hard copy version of the Cert IV WHS BSB41419 Qualification.
Progression:
Students who have completed Certificate IV in WHS (BSB41419) are eligible to undertake the Diploma of WHS (BSB51319) qualification. Completion of at least the five core units of BSB41419 is a mandatory government-determined pre-requisite to the Diploma of WHS.
This qualification applies to individuals working in a work health and safety (WHS) role who provide a broad range of technical knowledge and skills and have some limited responsibility for the output of others.
The qualification applies to those working as supervisors, WHS personnel, and workers in other WHS-related roles who manage risks effectively, apply relevant WHS laws, and contribute to WHS within the workplace in known or changing contexts with established parameters.
The Cert IV in WH&S (BSB41419) is available online and face to face and will teach you how to comply with WH&S legislation, how to identify hazards and how to assess and control risks. You will learn how to contribute to WH&S in a workplace environment, including aiding in the implementation of WH&S strategies to control risks and emergency procedures. Our Certificate IV in WHS is offered face to face in Brisbane and many other regional areas and online Australia-wide, and will help you to take that next step in your career, whether it is for up-skilling in your current workplace or providing you with a valuable qualification to pursue an alternative career.
There are no formal prerequisites for the Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety online course, although a minimum Grade 10 is recommended. A strong internet connection will be required, as this course is 100% online. All online courses and off-campus assessments will require students to complete a declaration that they completed the assessment themselves.

Once students have booked into the course, an enrollment form link will be sent. Once the enrolment details have been returned, we will confirm you are eligible for the course and send out course login details to our learning management system on the Cloud Assess platform. Coursework will be provided the next business day if the booking occurs after hours, on weekends, or on Public Holidays. For those wishing to look at Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), please contact the office to enquire. We will need to see a large amount of workplace evidence to map to the unit of competency; however, we can provide more information upon inquiry. An extra administration fee may be payable for mapping evidence against the unit of competency requirements.
