ONLINE Mining Induction Standard 11 Underground REFRESHER | Coal and Metalliferous Mines

RIIERR203E Escape from hazardous situations unaided (Underground Unit)

This online Recognised Standard 11: Training in Coal Mines – Appendix 3: Generic OH&S Induction (commonly referred to as Std 11) Underground Refresher program has been developed to meet the Coal Mining Safety and Health Regulation 2017 s. 84 (1), which states:

84Refresher training

(1) The site senior executive for a coal mine must ensure each coal mine worker at the mine, including each worker holding a senior management or supervisory position and each worker holding a certificate of competency, is given refresher training under the mine’s training scheme at least once every 5 years.

This REFRESHER course covers both coal and metalliferous mines. This Recognised Standard 11 Mine Safety Induction (Underground) REFRESHER course is typically delivered face-to-face over approximately 4 hours or via this online mode (with a brief one-on-one component with the trainer/assessor upon completion of the online theory via Facetime, Zoom, etc.).

Successful students will receive an updated Statement of Attainment with the current version of the Underground Unit of Competency and a plastic Std 11 Induction Card (Underground).

Students will be required to complete the theory online and then complete the practical tasks via webcam videoconferencing with the OHSA Trainer/Assessor.

If you wish to conduct simulated exercises by Zoom, Facetime, Webcam, etc., with our trainer/assessor, you will need to have access to a Self-Contained Self-Rescuer (SCSR). If you do not have access to a SCSR, you can instruct the OHSA Assessor on how to inspect and don our SCSR, which we will provide during the webcam video conferencing session.

In order to enter this program, you will need to provide the following evidence:

  1. Copy of your current Statement of Attainment (listing the Underground Unit of Competency) – we will need to verify its authenticity with the issuing RTO before we can issue an updated Statement of Attainment.
  2. Evidence of employment in the Resources Industry during the previous 5 years. This can be evidenced by providing examples of the following: Letter of Employment and Position Description, site induction records, site training records/matrix, employer letter verifying your employment/engagement in the industry, etc.
  3. Photo ID at the commencement of your Zoom/facetime/webcam session.

The participants will be required to correctly answer random questions (that were in the online course) to verify that they have completed the course by themselves. This is a mandatory requirement before they are allowed to commence the practical conversation with the trainer/assessor and complete the webcam/Facetime observation of the practical inspection and donning of the SCSR.

This course exceeds most other State mining general safety induction requirements. This course covers both coal and metalliferous mines.

All course assessments must be completed within six (6) weeks of receiving course login details.

STUDENT TESTIMONIALS

I strongly recommend choosing OHSA as your training provider for mining courses. As someone new to the mining and health & safety sectors, I found them highly accommodating to my specific needs and supportive in helping me succeed. Their team is always available to provide assistance when needed, and the training was engaging and interactive. I would confidently recommend OHSA to anyone. Additionally, the assessors were very understanding of my need for a fast turnaround on marking.
