This ‘G2’ RIIRIS402E Carry out the Risk Management Processes course covers the skills and knowledge required to Carry out the Risk Management Processes in the Coal and Metalliferous mining industries. This competency is a statutory requirement according to mining legislation for certain occupational categories as deemed by the respective Mining Safety & Health Advisory Committees. Some mining companies have expanded which groups of people require this competency with some sites now requiring any person with a supervisory capacity to also hold this competency along with the Mining Supervisor S123.

This unit of competence supersedes the MNCG1002B – Implement and apply Risk Management Processes; commonly referred to as G2.

There may be some post course work which requires students to submit a port-folio of site evidence demonstrating competency in the relevant field of study including submitting a facilitated risk assessment (JSEA’s/WRAC/Bow-Tie etc) and a risk management process review /  inspection/audit report. This qualification must be refreshed at least every 5 years. See our G2 Refresher program on our website for this program.

Supervisors can choose to do the 5 day supervisors package which includes the Standard 11, Mining Supervisor S123 and G2 over 5 consecutive days Monday to Friday or Wednesday to Sunday.

RIIRIS402E includes:

  • Determining the risk management process
  • Identifying hazards
  • Assessing risk
  • Identifying unacceptable risk and potential actions
  • Deciding on, implementing or facilitating of actions
  • Reviewing the implementation of action
  • Auditing the risk management process; and
  • Completing records and reports.

Candidates should have at least Grade 10 (or equivalent) language and literacy skills.  If candidates require any learning support you should contact OHSA on 1300 647 200 to discuss your learning support needs. Students are also required to complete an enrolment form prior to commencement of the courses, which amongst other things, requires you to identify any learning support needs you may require to complete this course.

Candidates must have access to a current resources (Coal, Metalliferous, Drilling, Exploration or Civil Infrastructure) site / project / workplace or recent experience (in the past 12 months) working in resources and have access to a supervisor / manager to provide third party supplementary manager testimonial of your demonstrated ability to carry out certain tasks as part of this course. If you are no longer employed at a resources project or cannot get access to a recent supervisor / manager or site documentation, you may need to reconsider doing this course via online / distance learning mode.

Online / Distance Learning Course – Participants should have access to a suitable computer/internet/printer and sufficient internet skills for the online option and have the resources & capability to participate in video conferencing / webinars or Facetime interviews with the Trainer / Assessor (if required). Students should also be allocated sufficient time and resources to complete the course content and have current access to a resources workplace and have access to a Justice of the Peace or Commissioner of Declarations where Statutory Declarations are required to be submitted. Participants must also provide photographic identification (i.e. driver’s licence, passport). On-line courses and off-campus assessments will require students to complete a declaration that they completed the assessment themselves.

Course log-ins will be sent to the student after enrolment. If enrolment occurs after hours, on  weekend or Public Holidays course work will be provided the next business day.

Students must complete the course within six (6) weeks of receipt of enrolment and receipt of course paperwork from OHSA.

There is no refund once you have enrolled into the course and received the course material from OHSA.

Q. How long do I have to complete this course?

A. You have six (6) weeks to complete this course once you have been enrolled into the course and received the course documentation from OHSA.
