Undertaking and successfully completing this course will provide students with the following six units of competency, commonly referred to in the industry as the S11, or Standard 11:
This online Standard 11 Surface Refresher program has been developed by the Resources Training Council (RTC) to meet the Mining Legislation requirement that mining competencies be REFRESHED at least every 5 years. OHSA is licensed with RTC to deliver this course. This course is offered face to face or now online (in response to COVID19).
This course covers both coal and metalliferous mines. The Standard 11 Mine Safety Induction (Surface) REFRESHER course is typically delivered face-to-face over 0.5 day – however due to the current issues with COVID 19 Coronavirus the Resources Training Council have agreed to temporary allow this course to be delivered online with a 2.5 hr practical workshop. However, if due to social distancing and ‘lock-down,’ attendance to small group practical workshops is not possible, the student may then complete a scheduled webcam or face time simulated demonstration with the trainer / assessor – whereby upon successful completion of the written and practical assessments during the course, you will receive a Statement of Attainment and a plastic RTC Standard 11 Induction photo ID card enabling you to commence work on the mine site. If you are unable to complete the practical demonstrations due to current social distancing rules, you may request that you complete a webcam / facetime session where you will be required to demonstrate the practical components (bandage a snake bite, apply bandage for small bleed, 2 minutes on uninterrupted CPR, use of fire extinguisher, use of a two-way radio and completion of an incident report). Simulated activities may be available if the practical exercises are unable to be performed due to the current COVID19 restrictions.
You should contact our office if you wish to attend practical workshops for dates, times and locations. If you wish to conduct simulated exercises by Facetime / Webcam etc with our trainer / assessor you will need to have access to bandages, fire extinguisher and someone to demonstrate CPR on. You will also need to show photo ID at the commencement of your Facetime / webcam session and be able to answer random questions about the course before you are allowed to commence. This is to verify that you completed the course by yourself.
Those wishing to refresh their underground course will need to do the Standard 11 Underground REFRESHER course which is also currently being allowed to be completed with an online theory and practical workshop.
This course exceeds most other State mining general safety induction requirements. This course covers both coal and metalliferous mines.
