This online Recognised Standard 11: Training in Coal Mines – Appendix 3: Generic OH&S Induction (commonly referred to as Std 11) Surface Refresher program has been developed to meet the Coal Mining Safety and Health Regulation 2017 s. 84 (1) which states:

84Refresher training

(1) The site senior executive for a coal mine must ensure each coal mine worker at the mine, including each worker holding a senior management or supervisory position and each worker holding a certificate of competency, is given refresher training under the mine’s training scheme at least once every 5 years.

This REFRESHER course covers both coal and metalliferous mines. This Recognised Standard 11 Mine Safety Induction (Surface) REFRESHER course is typically delivered face-to-face over approximately 4-8 hours or via this online mode (with a brief 1 on 1 component with the trainer / assessor upon completion of the online theory via facetime, ZOOM etc.).

Successful students will receive an updated Statement of Attainment with the current version of the Surface Unit of Competencies and a plastic Std 11 Induction Card (Surface).

Students will be required to complete the theory online and then complete the practical tasks via webcam video conferencing with OHSA Trainer / Assessor.

If you wish to conduct simulated exercises by Zoom, Facetime / Webcam etc. with our trainer / assessor, you will need to have access to a fire extinguisher to demonstrate putting out a small fire, bandages to manage a small bleed and snake bite, demonstrate how to perform DRSABCD & 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on a mannequin or person, access to a two-way radio / mobile phone and you must participate in an incident role play and complete an incident report. If you can provide evidence of current / recent First Aid Certificate/s and Fire Fighting / Extinguisher / Site Emergency Training or equivalent Units of Competency (issued by an RTO) the participant will not need to demonstrate / complete the 1 or 1 practical webcam exercises with the OHSA Trainer / Assessor.

In order to enter this program, you will need to provide the following evidence:

  1. Copy of your current Statement of Attainment (listing the 6 Surface Units of Competency) – we will need to verify its authenticity with the issuing RTO before we can issue an updated Statement of Attainment.
  2. Evidence of employment in the Resources Industry during the previous 5 years. This can be evidenced by providing examples of the following: Letter of Employment and Position Description, site induction records, site training records / matrix, employer letter verifying your employment / engagement in the industry etc.
  3. Photo ID at the commencement of your zoom / facetime / webcam session.

The participant will be required to correctly answer random questions (that were in the online course) to verify they have completed the course by themselves. This is a mandatory requirement before they are allowed to commence the practical conversation with trainer / assessor and complete the webcam / facetime observation of the completion of the practical tasks.

This course exceeds most other State mining general safety induction requirements. This course covers both coal and metalliferous mines.

All course assessments must be completed within six (6) weeks of receiving course log in details.
